What I got for Christmas

I think I did pretty well this holiday.

I got:
a Best Buy Gift Card, an external hard drive, a Bungie shirt, a new jacket, a poker set, Risk, Star Wars: Battlefront for PS2, and one of those really squishy pillows among other things.

I'm going to use my gift card to buy The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King Special Extented DVD. I was so surprised I got Battlefront because it is expensive.

My Christmas Plans

Well, it's the time we've all been looking forward to. Here are my plans in case anyone cares:

Today, Christmas Eve:
I worked in the morning
My cousins on my mom's side will be coming over

Tomorrow, Christmas:
Family presents in the morning
Go over to my grandma's for Christmas on my dad's side

That's all! Merry Christmas!

Aww, Thanks

My roommate put up a thing about my blog on his site. And just for clarification, I knew rudimentary HTML code before I blogged for some time. I just need to know how to format the picture to lose the borders if I wanted them. Other than that, check it out.

Glimpse from the Past

OK, I meant to post this yesterday, but I'm lazy. Yesterday, before "Christmas With The Kranks" at San Ann'a, I saw the first person I ever cared about but haven't seen in too long a time: Beth Ranslem. Oh boy! I hadn't seen her in forever and I couldn't get a hold of her because I think she moved. I miss seeing her and talking to her so much. She was the first person I had ever cared about.

Beth was one of those girls that was too impressive to believe. She was always dating someone so windows were never there, but I would visit her so frequently when I went to Fremont. I took her to my sophomore homecoming dance, but she did say that she had the PSAT tests the next day. She stayed for pictures but dance procrastinators took too long and she had to leave. She didn't stay long but it was well worth it for me. I started going stag to the homecomings as was the tradition and asked her to my junior prom. She agreed only to later find out she had another appointment but she set me up with one of her friends. This is the girl that I would do anything for, even take someone I had never met to my prom. I invited her to my graduation, but her first year of college must have been busy and I don't blame her.

I hear now she's engaged/married, not sure anymore. I am glad to know that she is the kind of woman that grows more beautiful in time. I wish her the best of years and give her the knowledge that I will always care for her.

Review of "Christmas With The Kranks"

I went to go see this movie with my parents tonight. This isn't one of those exceptional movies and I knew it so don't have high expectations. My dad put it best as a "Christmas Vacation wannabe."

It is a cute movie with a cute premise. The one thing that was missing was the lack of realism. This isn't the typical "Santa is real" type of realism but more of how they were treated as a neighborhood. Perhaps it's just because I don't live in a town, but the neighborhood was really fake. If anyone sees this movie and say their neighborhood is like this, please comment. Other than that, it was a cute movie.

I'm not sure how avoiding decorations and pleasantries would save them so much money but it was to make the ending fast paced.

I commented to myself that it is a shame that my Golden Age of Movie Theatres is gone. This is the time from 1997-2002 when there was good reason to go to the theatres. Now, it seems there's one good movie for a while and then nothing. I was happy to see a huge Fantastic 4 display at the Fremont theatre, though.

I typically reserve 1-5 for disliked movies and 6-10 for liked movies. This was enjoyable, but not the best holiday movie ever.

My Rating: out of 10
DVD Worthy: It would make a nice, cheap holiday movie sometime.

Other Cat

I came home yesterday and was greeted by a strange cat! Apparently she's been here since Saturday. She's really friendly (so unlike our cat who hates this one) and actually comes when you call her. She won't sit still for a picture though... Posted by Hello

Currently, She's going by "Other Cat" because my family's not good with names. If anyone can come up with another name, feel free to comment it.

On a side note, I just got an IM from Supa C telling me that the graduating high school class will be getting together on Sunday at Applebees on Center at 7pm. Unfortunately, I already have plans with my family on that day . I wish I could be there, but I can't. I may try to make it afterwards, but I honestly doubt it.

Winter Break

OK, I'm done with my finals. I'm just waiting to pick up my Comp portfolio. It's going to be a long break and I'll probably be bored. If anyone wants to do something near Omaha, send em an email or an IM or look me up in the student directory.

I try to blog daily, but with break, I may not be abe to. If I do, I realize that not everyone is as addicted to the Internet as I am. That is why I'm glad I put up categories so if you get behind, you can always see what I wrote by its topic. Check the "My Life Outside of College" category because that's where most will go.

As a small present, I will have the song of the moment: "The Blower's Daughter" by Damien Rice playing in the background for today and maybe tomorrow. I typically hate background sounds, but I'll make an exception for this.

Merry Christmas!
Happy Hanukah!
Happy Chrismahanukwanzaka!

Petition #2

Petition #1: Stop the people saying racist comments using Xbox Live Communicators
Petition #2: Stop the people who continually "hump" and team-kill players via harassment.

First of all, I've already said my opinions on Petiton #1: I strongly don't agree with the things said, but they are constitutionally protected to say it. They're saying these things over a private area network, not a public one. To hear these things someone needs an Xbox and a connection to the WSC network, which is not public. It is up to WSC to decide what should be allowed, but they are owned by the state government which must adhere to the Bill of Rights. They're only abusing the network, not the part that uses the Internet. It's a shame they're connected. I would be satisfied with a formal, public apology unless they want to fight it as the guys who want to say the n-word more.

In my honest opinion, the second one is a slap in the face. It is totally unjustified. It is not appropriate (see Biskuit's Halo 2 Etiquette) but it is not enough to pull them from the network. It's time to realize something: We're adults now. Yeah, shocking! If you want to complain to Teacher everytime someone calls you a name, go back to first grade. In college, if someone insults you, ignore it. Be the bigger man. As for team-killing: change teams! Are you worried about losing your negative points? If they change again, is it worth playing in that game? That, or boot them and turn on party privacy. If it will be a long game, they won't have the patience to wait for it to end. Another thing, the people signing this one do it too! "Hehe, it's fun!"

Personally, the humping doesn't bother me. I don't let it bother me. Verbal non-extreme-offensive atagonism don't bother me. They can talk the whole time about who they're killing if they want to.

One of My Best Days Ever!

I took my History Final today! There was like 3-4 questions I did not know, but I think I gave a good guess, but I'm not expecting a 100% but I'm so happy. I've said it once, and I'll say it again: Take U.S. History with Hickey! The tests are long, but consistent. They're always 80 questions, multiple choice, even the final. His lectures aren't bad either.

I returned my books too. I kept my Web Design book because it was worth little and my History narrative because it was worth $5. I wouldn't have minded keeping my Comp Quick Access Grammar book because it is neat, but it was $15, so I gave it back. Macbeth was worth nothing and worth nothing to me becuase I never read it, oh well. Overall, I got $70.25 back! That put me back into my desired spending range in my checking account! I've been in debt to myself for the longest time (stupid break spending!) now I'm where I want to be. Give me another $100 and I'll be really happy. C'mon snow days!

I also found out that if I remembered to go to the Hall Council Meeting last night, I would've won a $60 Home Theatre System from Wal-Mart. They said it's not a great one, but it was free. I was at Niehardt scaring the bejesus out of Rhea and I ALWAYS forget about Hall Council. If anyone is going next semester, remind me of it before you go. I can never remember Monday at 9:00pm for some reason. I want to go! But I did win a consolidation prize of 4 Milky Way Santas. Mmmmm, chocolate. And tonight 3rd South is getting it's pizza at 7:00 for winning Morey Jeopardy. And Phil put out cookies for us. Thanks, Phil.

I hate to jinx it by blogging it, but I've had a good run. Now I have to write a 3-paragraph essay for tomorrow and finish my 3-page paper for Theatre with another page and a half. I am so happy that I really want to do something fun tonight!

Lord of the Rings Run

I went along on the midnight Lord of the Rings run. *No, I did not but it, I'm getting it for Christmas* It was funny, all these people gravitating towards the box being open. There was no Nord this time. The cashier was stashing the box behind her so people had to get in line to buy it. It was funny.

On another note, I saw Trivial Pursuit 90's edition for $20! Usually it's 30. I hope I get that as well or the price better hold out so I can get it over break. Also, they had the Darth Vader voice-changer helmet!! for $30!!!

Rampage on a Ghost

I know they all hate me but I got a Rampage medal on a Ghost today! That's 15 frickin' kills without dying. I know it's cheap and requires no skill, but no one can get the best of me. I always have to justify it: If you're going to monopolize the snipers, rockets, and swords; I get the Ghosts!

I am not afraid of fighting anyone while not on a Ghost, too so don't think I'm a total panzy.

Hooray for Finals!

Yeah, right! Anyways, as a nice public service here is my finals schedule:

Tuesday:
1:00pm - U.S. History: actual test
3:30pm - Web Design: project due at end

Wednesday:
1:00pm - Geography: take-home essay

Thursday:
10:30pm - Theatre: take-home and performance

The only one I'm really worried about is the History one on Tuesday, other than that, I will probably be really bored on the other days so if anyone wants to do anything, I will probably be free! I will be leaving on Thursday probably after I eat.

Oreo Blizzard

Today was interesting, Amie was feeling down and was getting comfort from Goose. There were going to go to Magic Wok and I tagged along to provide support. We ended up at Dairy Queen. I had an Oreo Blizzard for the first time in a long time. Brenner also showed up. We went to Pamida to look for gifts. They had a Doc Ock arm thingy and I liked it. I found a Santa hat for $2.00, reduced to $1.50, and Goose knew the cashier and he gave us his discount making it $1.28. They also had an Electronic Spin the Bottle game and really squishy ducks and boxing mitts. Afterwards, Amie was feeling better and Goose wanted to see a movie. I went over to Berry and watched Clue and Star Wars IV.

We we're trying to figure out the order of things. We think it's: virgin to start, then skank, then slut, then whore. Let me know if there may be another rank in there. :)

On another note, Amie has been having the worst couple of weeks EVER!! Amie, if you feel like talking and just having some fun to escape this crap, never, ever hesitate to get a hold of me. I love encouraging people.

Is this a joke?

This was in the recent Wayne Stater:

Dear Editor,

Every Wednesday while reading the Stater, I am subjected to complete b.s. I used to believe that the paper was near perfect. Over the last few months, however, I have been proven wrong. The column “Simon says,” written by Nikki Simon (clever name by the way), is a constant annoyance. This girl, yes I said girl, seems to think that she is the leading authority on music.

Evidently, Nikki believes that she has the best musical taste on campus. She must also believe that we are all mindless college students who will agree with and follow her worthless advice.

I believe that it is now time to call out Ms. Simon. Not only does she pick the worst possible artist to review (need I mention Good Charlotte?) but she also has absolutely no writing skills, whatsoever. I think that it is about time that she stops pushing her column on us like it’s the Bible.

My firm hope is that soon Nikki, or someone she listens to, will pull her head out of her rear. Until then, I, along with many others, hope she will keep her opinions to herself, that is, until she finally has something worthwhile to say.

Sincerely,
Elizabeth Albrecht

Is she serious? Nikki and Liz live in the same f-in house! They are practically roommates and best friends. Why on earth would she put this in the paper, to be funny? Was she expecting Nikki to catch this at the Stater's office or what? There better have been no other letters to the editor becuase otherwise this was a waste of ink because someone's actual opinion could have been printed.

Patti's arm looks like a butt!

Patti's arm looks like a butt! Posted by Hello

But seriously...After Morey Jeopardy I went over to Niehardt for some Trivial Pursuit. It was fun. Ok, Read the orange Sports & Games question Posted by Hello

I got this question, of course I'm going to get it right! They thought I had memorized the cards because I got as another question: Name 3 of the 5 Starfleet captains? I said, "It's a Star Trek question, I'll give you all 5: William Shatner as Captain Kirk, Patrick Stewart as Captain Picard, Avery Brooks as Captain Sisko, Kate Mulgrew as Captain Janeway, and Scott Bakula as Captain Archer." They were freaked, but it was in that order which is chronological. It's a Star Trek question, I'm going to get it right!

It started with Me, Patti, Kaddy, and Bri. Then Bri left and Nicole played for her. Then we had to check in and Kaddy comes over to another dorm at 9:30 pm without an id. So he was gone and then we stopped. Patti and I watched "Return to Oz": freaky, freaky movie. Then I noticed that Patti's arm looks like a butt. We showed Nicole, Rhea, and Amie. I think I lost like 5 pounds by laughing.

Morey Jeopardy

I feel so happy. We played Morey Jeopardy tonight and our floor won. Props to Jessie Hughes for seeing me on the floor

We were doing good during the first round. The category "Broadcasting" was good for me.
Who was the father of the radio? from Spider-Man 2: Marconi.
Who is the owner of FOX? Rupert Murdoch, "the billionaire tyrant"
What company provides ratings? Neilsen
What news anchor recently retired? Tom Brokaw

The second round was awesome, First category: Family Guy
What was the dog's name? Brian
What's Stewie's teddy bear's name? Rupert (Brenner beat me to it)
What lives in Chris's closet? evil monkey
What is the name of the bar? the Drunken Clam
What was Peter's boss's name? Mr. Weed

Another category: The Simpsons
What street do they live on? Evergreen Terrace
What the cat's name? Snowball II
What is the name of Ned Flanders' store in the mall? the Leftorium
What was the name of Patty and Selma's iguana? Jub Jub
Who voiced Maggie? Elizabeth Taylor

There was King of the Hill, but I didn't know that. There was Halo but Brenner beat me to most of them because he knows more than I.
What was Halo 2's release date? November 9, 2004
What is the name of the main character? Master Chief
What is the name of the flying craft? Banshee
What multiplayer map has water in the middle? Battle Creek
How many campaign levels are there? 15

We 8,000-something points
Final Jeopardy: we wagered 3,101 on Wayne State History
What was the first Co-ed dorm? Berry, according to Dr. Carstens
We guessed Niehardt.

It was fun, we get pizza now.

RvB Episode 45

Check out the new Red vs. Blue's new episode. It's good and it mentions blogging and Gmail.

Spidey Commentary

This is a long-time-post coming. Before Spider-Man 2 was on DVD I watched the Spider-Man commentary and then on the Wednesday after, I watched the sequel's commentary.

Spider-Man's commentary is good, but not anything special. Kirsten Dunst is on it, but she rarely talks. You get a lot of information about the movie from director Sam Raimi more than any of the others.

Spider-Man 2's commentary is better, but still not like Family Guy. Tobey Maguire is a good choice, he's actually funny in many parts and he's watching it with Sam Raimi, so they make a good combination. Avi Arad, producer and Marvel CEO was fine, but at times he was distracting.

Both commentaries are livable but are probably only good if you like Sam Raimi movies, like Spider-Man, or really enjoyed the movies.

Star Wars Games

Wow! Another Star Wars post before sleep! Oh well, I'm sure they'll increase as May gets closer. I found this list of games they're planning on releasing. I have the Trilogy and rare Episode I Trivial Pursuit so the bite size sounds interesting. The DVD sounds cool too. It reminds me of Lord of the Rings Trivial Pursuit where in stores now there's the regular but soon they'll have a DVD version too. The Risk is something I'll have to see. What are they going to do? Stars?

Star Wars in 2005 :: Action-Figure :: Toy, Collectibles and Action Figure News and Reviews from across the Globe: "Trivial Pursuit Bite Size - Star Wars Edition: 600 Star Wars themed questions. Bite size can be used as a travel game by itself or as supplementary questions in the main game.

Another date to add to my calendar...March 22, 2005. That's when Clone Wars is on DVD. I love the list price too, $20. I figure it's one DVD, it's only 19 3-minute parts and one 5-minute part. That's not all that long, ≈2 hours. I will be pissed if include those stupid spash screens between the parts instead of making it one long movie like Red vs. Blue.

Gaming Night Results

The ACM Gaming Night was fun. There was a large turnout that we didn't really expect. Considering that the flyers were put out 3 hours before the event, and the only other publicity was an email message and a post on the Underground.

I have to give props to Viper, Mamba, and Weber. They donated the use of their Xbox and controllers and made the game much more fun. I rocked at Galaxian on the Atari 2600 emulator. I haven't played that in forever. It was fun to see Lori Nicholson play Halo 2. She was trying to figure out if she had any of the people killing her in her classes.

There is one thing I must address that really has nothing to do with the gaming Night. There is a person on the campus network named Chloe. This person (and maybe others) have be utturing racial slurs using the Xbox Communicators in the lobby, not ingame. I assume it's being/been taken care of. It's great that people are starting to buy the communicators, but we need to be more responsible with the things we say. It is never funny. You never know when something you say may offend someone

Getting things done...

I feel so proud of myself. I devoted the whole weekend to homework. I got my Geography Coloring Book stuff all done before getting distracted by Halo yesterday. Today I got 2 papers done for Theatre tomorrow and I have one page left on my final paper in Comp to do. Considering I wrote 2 pages today on it, I feel confident I can complete it by Tuesday.

On that note, I have a simple request. My paper is on musical scores in movies. I have been citing examples from movies where music helped the scene. If anyone knows of any movie that had a good instrumental score, comment it or IM it or email it or whatever. I'll fill in the rest, I just need movies. Thanks.

Melee Triple Kill

I feel so happy. On Halo 2 on Ascension, there is a part where it looks like a ramp to nowhere and I see three guys up there sniping. So I head up there...melee...melee...melee. They're all dead. It's not often I hear a Triple Kill, but when it's all assassinations, it's nice.

On second thought...It's the weekend! I have absolutely nothing to do. If anyone has anything going on where I wouldn't have to spend money, let me know because if not I will be bored and when Jimmy gets bored, the insanity begins.

Thursday, December 02, 2004

I'm Jimmy, and I'm listening.

I was eating lunch today and Dr. Collings sat down and starting talking to the kid a few seats down. I have a problem with dropping eaves and I heard some things that I thought sounded like good ideas. He was talking about how dorm renovations try to get as musch done in the summer. He also was talking about rooms with separate, lockable bedrooms with a common area in a suite like style so that if you want to sleep early, you can. Obviously he wasn't talking about anything in specific like renovating an existing dorm or building a new one, but it is nice to know that he's thinking about interesting new things to have on campus.

TNG on Family Guy

TrekToday - Stewart Heads Up CIA On 'American Dad': "Although Star Trek: Nemesis was the last official outing for the Next Generation crew, [Patrick] Stewart hasn't hung up his Starfleet uniform just yet. McFarlane announced that Stewart (Jean-Luc Picard) and Marina Sirtis (Deanna Troi) will be appearing in an upcoming episode of Family Guy's fourth season. '[They] did a cutaway gag for us where they played Captain Picard and Counselor Troi, which was pretty fun,' he said. "

Good Ole Equity

For Theatre, we were put into groups and assigned a guild to present on with a visual aid. She paired me with Jester and, of course, we had to use the Master Cheifs. We were assigned Actor's Equity so we devised a skit involving members of Equity and one of our classmates. Below is a picture of the cast with the names of their parts, with the exception of the giant Pikachu used for the odd finale. Posted by Hello

And here's the script:

Patrick Quinn: Hello, My name is Patrick Quinn, President of Actor’s Equity. You know, we are rarely in control of our own destinies. Actor’s Equity is here to give its members a united voice in determining basic compensation and working conditions.

Alec Baldwin: That’s right. Hi, I’m Alec Baldwin. Actor’s Equity was founded in New York City in 1913 and its jurisdiction covers actors and stage managers in the professional theatre.

Angela Lansbury: Hello, I’m the lady from “Murder, She Wrote”. Equity’s goals are to secure and protect the rights of members in their business relations with employers. Equity has over 45,000 members in the United States.

Ashley Judd: I’m Ashley Judd. Equity is a member of the American Federation of Labor and Congress of Industrial Organizations and is a branch of the Associated Actors and Artists of America or the Four A’s. We’re also an affiliate of the Federation Internationale des Actuers, an international organization with members from 43 countries.

Rosie O’Donnell: Bonjour, (my name is Rosie O’Donnell.) in French

Martin Sheen: Hi, I’m Martin Sheen. There are many benefits to joining AE. If you have worked for a minimum of 10 weeks, you qualify for a health plan.

Rosie O’Donnell: Yes!

Martin Sheen: If you are employed under contract, and have participated for a number of years actively you can qualify for the Pension and Retirement Plans.

Angela Lansbury: Yes!

Boy: Ooh, ooh! I want to join Actor’s Equity! My name is Boy and I’m a 16-year old student at Wayne State College.

Alec Baldwin: Whoa, hold on there! First you need $1100 for an initiation fee.

Ashley Judd: Then you need either an Equity Contract, be affiliated with the 4 A’s, or participate in the Equity Membership Candidate Program which allows in-training candidates to earn equity credit. Or there’s the Equity Showcase in which a member from AE and SAG among others showcase their fresh talent in hopes for securing auditions.

Boy: Oh Man! I’m only a college freshman at 16 years old. I have none of that.

Stewie Griffin: Well, I doubt you’d go far in Equity with the name “Boy”. That is my professional name and in Equity, you would have to change yours so that there isn’t 2.

(Boy runs off crying)

Patrick Quinn: Even then, he needs to pay his semi-annual dues of $118, and, of course, Equity will get 2% of you gross earnings until we steal a total earnings of $300,000 from you and that would only happen if you made $150 million.

Angela Lansbury: Ah yes, but if your employer becomes insolvent, you will get all the money and benefits as agreed by the contract through Equity’s bonds.

Martin Sheen: But if you are delinquent in paying dues for two years, your membership is cancelled, and you lose all benefits.

Alec Baldwin: Don’t forget about Equity’s Anti-Discrimination Policy.

Sergeant Johnson: That’s right. Without it I would not be eligible along with anyone else regardless of gender, age, race, and ability. And they also try to expand non-traditional roles for those people.

Rosie O’Donnell: All right! (or some other French expression)

Pikachu: Pikachu!

ACM Meeting Minutes 12/01/2004

ACM Meeting Minutes
12/01/04

Meeting began at 5:03pm.
8 members were present.

Gaming Night will be this upcoming Monday, December 6 from 6-11pm

I figure we'll need only 2 Xboxes for Halo 2, my reasoning is this:
In Halo, the game would only allow matches with 4 boxes, so the LANs were devised to maximize the amount of people in those boxes, 4 boxes x 4 people per box = 16 people. In Halo 2, the game only has a maximum of 16 people in a match, but doesn't limit the number of boxes involved. This has sorta killed the LANs because now people tend to stay in thier rooms.

With 2 boxes, we can connect 8 people to the network to play others on campus. The draw to come will be based on the fact that it will be big screen projected and there will be free food. If demand increases, we will try to find more boxes and games.

Dan and Randy reported that the emulators from last year have been installed. They are emulators for Nintendo 64, Nintendo Entertainment System, Sega Genesis, Arcade, GameBoy and GameBoy Advance, Super Nintendo, and Atari 2600.

Pizza Hut vs. Godfather's? Godfathers won out, so it will be served.

Meeting adjourned at 5:09pm
Meeting re-opened at 5:10pm due to food.

We'll try to get posters out on Friday.

Nick's hyping people to go to "Walking in Someone Else's Shoes" at the Library.

This is the last meeting of 2004.

Because of a relatively low turnout, we encourage those who were unable to attend to email any other thoughts they may have about the gaming night.

Meeting adjourned for-real at 5:28pm.
Next Meeting: January 19, 2005
