Distraction

Yesterday Steph, Jen, Angie, and Daniele came up to watch the last two Austin Powers movies. Well, my ADD acted up again and I picked up my action figs and starships. Eventually I got my lightsabers out as well and...

Gold Yoda Can

OK, Here's a story from Thanksgiving. It's the night before with my mom's side and my cousin asks me if I had regretted keeping a Gold Yoda can instead of getting $20. A little backstory here: Back in 1999 Pepsi released cans with 20 different Episode I characters on them and I got most of them except the Gold Yoda and the even rarer colored Destiny can. Well I told him that I never had a Gold Yoda. Now a normal person would simply accept this and move on, not him. He says, "Yeah, you do. I know I saw one of yours." I tell him, "No, I never had a Gold Yoda can." He is insistent that I have one somewhere. I tell him, "No, I don't have one. I am in a position to know what I have and what I do not have." He continues to be insistent until my annoyed brother tells me to end it. That angers me on two positions: 1. I'm right. 2. I'm not yelling or making a scene, but being calm about everything.

This is coming from their family where arguing is like a sport. They're like Tellarites. Those kids argue with each other about anything they can think of. This is why they have 9 TVs and 11 phones in a house of 5 because it's so hard to share and get along.

Also, his older sister was telling me about how she still thinks that Episode I was better than Episode III. I'd like to think she was joking but I strongly don't think so because she has Episode I and said the same about Episode II and never bought that one. I told her, "You are the only person in the world who thinks that." She said she liked it because of Jar Jar. I told her, "That is the exact reason why everyone else in the world doesn't like that movie." This is the movie that has bumped Return of the Jedi on some people's lists. I know that some people, like Jodie, don't even like Episode I at all. I respect it out of the sake of Star Wars but it's not #1. She is like the Bizarro Star Wars fan. I don't even want to know what she thinks of the Trilogy. So I'm sitting here thinking: Where am I? What is this place? How did I get here? What is wrong with these people?

At Best Buy

I was at Best Buy the other day looking at CDs and I saw the new Switchfoot album and I checked to see if it was a new release. No, it was not. It was the one with Sony's XCP spyware crap on it. It should've been recalled by now. It made we want to go and get some printable stickers that said:

DO NOT BUY
Contains Sony's XCP spyware
Ask Manager to Recall
Just because we're in Nebraska doesn't mean we're completely out of the loop. I found out about the spyware on the disc by it's back which looks like this:

The give-away is the "XCP" in the info web address. For a list of "infected" CDs, click here. This just makes me mad because people probably don't really know better and they should and then they'll have issues when they try to copy music to the computer or even worse, to an iPod, which won't work.

Thanksgiving

Well, not a whole lot to say really. I went into Omaha on Wednesday to get some stuff and then went to Waterloo to Harr's for Thanksgiving with my mom's side. It was nice, I guess. Yesterday I went over to my great aunt's house for Thanksgiving with my dad's side. We played some poker. I had absolutely nothing all night. My aunt did not know how to play and joined and won. Today I set up the big Christmas tree which took a while. Tomorrow is the October-November birthdays over at my cousins' house and Sunday is church and hopefully Westroads and also I need to get supplies like crazy.

I found out that my family has been letting the 3-legged cat into the house. He's much nicer than our crabby cat. He has the random name of Don and is a talker. When I get back up to college on Sunday I need to write a 4-5 page paper for Soc on Monday and do a crappy little assignment for Tekken. I also have to do a smaller paper for Presidency sometime before Tuesday. I'm hoping I'm motivated enough to work on it tomorrow during the day so I can have at least one thing done.

That's not Grievous

Well, yesterday a group of us went off to Sioux City to see the Harry Potter movie. I gave Jodie a couple of CDs of David Dondero, Eagle*Seagull, and Rilo Kiley I got from Matt. We went to Barnes and Noble first and Jodie and I tried to find Dianetics under the Sci-Fi section. No, it's not there. Then a bunch of us went to Hot Topic. The Book Lady and I emptied out most of the band buttons looking at them. Then the Book Lady, Steph and I wandered around the mall. We went to Spencers to find stuff for Jen, and then Sam Goody. There was a high-school worker there that saw us looking at the guitars and wanted to teach us. We then went to the preppy stores. American Eagle was playing The Bravery! We saw the expensive clothes. We then went into Far East Treasures and looked at the bongs. We then went to FYE and looked at music stuffs. Every store had something Beatles so Stephanie was going crazy. I wasn't going to the movie and Steph's back was bothering her so we didn't go and wandered around. We saw another music store in the mall and ogled the guitars again. There was also a game store. We then walked to Toys 'R' Us to find lightsabers. No they had none that lit up. They did have this re-frickin-diculous Star Wars knock off product filled with old CCG cards. It was too funny I had to take a picture:

As you can see there's some sort of something that could be considered Grievous, what may be a man dressed as a poor Amidala, and an obvious Blackbird or similar jet with writing on it that may pass as a starfighter in some un-named belief. Wow! Then we walked back to the food court and I got Burger King as Steph and I talked about Star Wars. Steph made fun of the Churro Churro mascot and she can't look at it again. Especially when a lady nearby was eating one slowly. Then we went back to Hot Topic and I got a cool messenger bag and patch. We wandered around the mall and saw the "boob jackets", the jackets cut so short and don't button that their only foreseeable use is to prevent nipping out. We laughed. Then we wandered back to Barnes and Noble to find Sex for Dummies for Jen and sat down for a while until they called and said the movie was done.

They went to eat as we talked. Angelina got a Churro Churro and Steph laughed. We then all went to Barnes and Noble again. We looked at the sex books again and laughed at the Kama Sutra until we left. We went to Wal-Mart and basically wasted time as Jodie returned her Smallville. They did have the color-changing Anakin lightsaber. We left there not before finding an inappropriate gourd. We then wanted Jen to see Doctor John's so I think she was freaked out by the place. Then we returned to Wayne. Now I'm somewhat excited for break.

Bright Eyes Concert

Alrighty, time to talk about last night's concert. First, Jodie and I closed up the fundraiser early and went off to Omaha. I was happy because I got to be preppy in a way. We had to stop at Will's to drop off something and to get more precise directions. He left a note: "Jodie Matt's". That's all that was needed. We went over to Matt's and saw Jen's ring. They said they were going to Kobe Steakhouse of Japan and invited us along. I hadn't been there in like 4-5 years so it was awesome. I had Chicken and Crabmeat. Jen was learning how to use chopsticks and she got a trainer thingy and was happy. The food was so good. Matt made the chef do a volcano. I commented that we were having a dinner and a show, then another show.

We went to the Orpheum for the show and it was my first time being there since 4th grade. The first guy was pretty good. He kinda suffers the opening act curse where he was good but eclipsed by the later bands that you remember like Number One Fan was. David Dondero was great. He was hilarious. I wanted his CD but the one there didn't have his Pre-Invasion Jitters song but I found it online. Spoon was good also. Their set felt backwards to me. The song I liked the most were the first ones and the later ones felt droning and repetitive. Still, they were good and want to hear how their album sounds. Then Bright Eyes took the stage. I was expecting most of the songs to be from Digital Ash but they played a nice mix from their albums. Jodie was happy they played Nothing Gets Crossed Out which is her anthem right now. Conor is so funny. Guys from the balcony would yell stuff at him but then he would always say, "Thank you, thank you so much," between each song. He also said the last time he was at the Orpheum, he was graduating high school so he took the time to recreate the experience. At one point they all went offstage but the house lights were still off so it took about 5 slow-claps to get them back on stage. I was considering getting a T-shirt but I didn't have cash on had and I should hold back on my expenditures for a while. On the way out I saw Matt and Shaun and that was cool. I tried seeing if Nikki was there but she didn't answer.

On the way back I was getting tired at about 2am so I just listened to Jodie's stories the way back up. Of course, DSAX and Griswold were still awake at 3:30 when we got back.

Charlie and the Midnight Run

Well it was time for the Wonkaness. Dan, Andie, Heather, Heidi, Jodie, and I went off to Norfolk to pick up the movie. I wanted in particular the 2-disc Deluxe Edition. Wal-Mart had the single disc with an exclusive CD containing the welcome and Oompa Loompa songs. Most people picked up that, but I wanted my 2-disc. I found the slot for it but they wouldn't open the boxes fast enough. Jodie got bored and went to Hy-Vee and finally they opened it. Dan liked the cover art because it is darker and it tempted him, but not enough. It was also filled with a pack of trading cards.

I watched it when I got back and I was tired again. However, I have found a benefit for watching then. People like to borrow/watch the movie and if I had already seen it, it's OK to let them. I did watch the Disc 2 and liked it. The features are short and fun to watch. I haven't tried the Activities but I'm not sure if I'll like it or not. Oh well, go get the movie. Time to play some more Battlefront II.

College Visits

I am a little irate right now. My parents called yesterday and told me that my cousin Adam came up for Fridays at WSC and tred to get a hold of me but couldn't. Well, I know why, I was in Sioux City. It irritates me because everyone from home usually calls or emails or something before they drive one and a half hours to get here. My cousin Kathryn called several times when she visited. My cousin Lisa let me know she was coming to see me, and like a billion others. My cousin Melissa let me know months in advance she was coming for a concert. My classmate Sarah got a hold of me beforehand. Even my classmate Amanda visited after Nikki said she was here. It's just so annoying because I would've been here if I had known. You can't expect me to sit around on my butt waiting for potential visitors.

Impulsiveness

Yesterday I went off to Sioux City because I haven't been anywhere in a while. I picked up a shirt at AĆ©ropostale that was marked down so I was happy. Clothes are so expensive now it seems. The shirt I got had similar styles for $30-35 at the Buckle, American Eagle, and PacSun. I got mine for $15. I rock. Hot Topic had something I may get at some time but not now. I spent a lot of time in Barnes and Noble and picked up the Gnostic Scriptures because I've wanted to read them. I then decided that I should go over to Best Buy because I haven't been there since it opened.

I walk in and there's a ton of Star Wars stuff since Tuesday. I was happy. I also found that they had Battlefront II for Xbox being played. Now, I did play it on the demo that came with the DVD and I wasn't going to buy it unless I could change the controls because the demo wouldn't. I was going to rent it but here it is for free. So I play it...for about an hour. It's really tempting me now. I decide to get it. They also had for free the City of Heroes Bootleg Edition, not sure what exactly that is, and some I Love the 80's 3D glasses. I did find out that Reward Zone members get a free lithograph with the DVD or Battlefront. I'm glad I am a member for once. I figured they'd only let me use $3 of the Monopoly money because of my CD fiasco but I was surprised that they didn't care so I had $9 from that. So, for being impulsive, I got a $50 game for $40 with a free, really awesome litho, another game, and some retro glasses. Not too shabby.

Revenge of the Midnight Run

Well since it was the remnant of Halloween it was decided that we would go to Wal-Mart in Norfolk in cognito. I took Jen, Dan, and Andie as Sam took Jodie and the others. We got there and started the search for the Star Wars. We found out they had a Star Wars party just earlier that no one knew about. We found the DVD with bonus disc in widescreen and hugged it. After a while, all my headgear started to drive me nuts so I removed it. I could find Battlefront II or its space in the shelf so I'm taking that as fate telling me to wait for Christmas. I had to take off my gloves so I could do the ritual of opening the DVD just to see the disc and the inserts. What a relief.

I am upset though. Because there was no way to do an all movie marathon in a 24 hour timespan, I decided to watch one every day this week. I played Episode I on my TV as Roger and Megan and I played Trivial Pursuit even thought I wanted to see it on my laptop because it's right next to my face and has better quality. I saw Episode II that day but my DVD player in my laptop started skipping again. It does this periodically and now it's back. Of all days! I watched it on the TV without incident and when I got back I tried Episode III. It skipped! I played it on my TV also and started at about 2:00 AM. This is actually the first time I've watched all of a movie after a midnight run. Usually I watch clips or start the movie and finish later. It was about 4:00 AM when DSAX got back and he was wondering what I was doing and noticed the Revenge. He watched the end with me and then Stu woke up to actually start his day. Funny. I wasn't too tired in class because it was at 11 but I wasn't stellar by any means. I tried the laptop again and it played disc 2 but not disc 1. I'm angry with it. I watched it again and now DSAX has it for the night and I may hop in there later.

Haunted House

Sorry for the lack of postings, it's been a hectic week/weekend. On Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and Monday I was out at the Haunted House for Sci-Fi and WSEAN. It was pretty fun. They wanted Willy Wonka to be the tour guide for the Torture Factory but my goggles fogged up after I put them on, plus the darkness in general kinda made me hesitant. I also forgot a part of it on Thursday but I did bring and wear some of the elements. We put some glow sticks on the cane and found out that it creates a good amount of ambient light on the shiny black glossy walls of the house so on Saturday I went into the TV room and spooked people there while at times greeting people outside. Sunday I went on in TV room again and got the hang of that but I wanted to be in the psychedelic mask strobe-ing room. I went in there near the end and were waiting for the fresh blood when we realized that everyone else was outside because no one was actually coming. I did navigate through the house and figured I would be able to tour guide as long as everyone was in their positions.

On Monday I actually guided. I'm afraid that my presence wasn't so much scary as it was deranged. That's OK though. I took some groups in without breaking out of character once which is trying. I did get a little upset when Megan was standing in the vicinity of the door in the strobe light room, not moving. I ran right into her and she got mad. She told me to take off the goggles and now I really hate that sentence. First, to remove the goggles, I have to remove everything else on my head first. Second, removing them would have me break character and I'm not willing to do that. Third, when a near-blind guy is walking toward you because he can't tell if you are a part of the wall, MOVE! I'm like a dinosaur in there, my vision is based on movement. Oh well, I got over it. I went over to Morey in between to the Monster Bash. I won Best Dressed by a majority and they gave me sugar. I stayed for a while and then headed back to the house. I got there and they were ready to close early because no one had came since I had left with the exception of those inside currently. I did get to tour Dan and Andie through before it was over though. After it was all said and done, we decided when it was time to go on the midnight run...
