Review of Episode III the Video Game

It's not often I review video games so this may be fun. The game is very fun to play. You basically have complete control of Jedi lightsaber combat. Force powers almost seem random to use. I'm also not sure how to gain additional experience once you've beat the game. It also seems that blocking can be not enough. The enemies can always hit you in sets but you're lucky to get two combos out without getting damaged. It's somewhat hard to do combos because you never know when it works and you have have to wait for the whole sh-bang before you can do another. Somehow General Grevious can block Force powers despite not being Force-sensitive and not just MagnaGuard battlestaffs are the only thing that block lightsabers. Seriously, near the end the Neimoidian brutes will swing back their axes, while blocking you somehow, and swing and hit you. I swear I was just hacking away at them with a lightsaber. Seriously, way too many things can deflect a lightsaber. Anyways, they don't really tell you how to fight Jedi effectively so I had to cheat to keep going.

The thing that saves this game is the multiplayer stuff. It has a Tekken-esque versus mode where you pick from between Anakin, Obi-Wan, Mace Windu, two game Jedi, Count Dooku, General Grevious, Darth Vader, and old Obi-Wan. I would've included Luke and Maul just because they're the only others left and that would be fun. I'm not looking for continuity with saber hits, because this is just fun. I'm not sure though why Grevious's 4-arm mode has a time limit. That's like losing control of a leg for a while. There's also some bonus missions that let you play as a MagnaGuard or Yoda, etc. That's fun along with the final bonus mission of replaying the Episode IV battle on the Death Star. Let's just say that makes that saber battle much more climactic.

On the whole it's a fun game and a good rental. I would probably purchase it when it goes below $30 just because of the annoying non-lightsaber blocking, but the Tekken is awesome.
